Best Styles for Maternity Cocktail Dresses

Pregnant women portray a rare beauty, especially when outfitted in the appropriate cocktail dress. We all know carrying around an extra 30 pounds can be uncomfortable, so part of finding the perfect cocktail dress is the fabric, and how the dress fits your body. I suggest a fabric that flows easily and does not fit the body too tightly. We don’t want you to be continuously grabbing at your dress asking for attention to be drawn to your belly.  Loose fabrics tend to be more comfortable to moms to be as they do not fit too tightly to the skin causing irritations.

However, some women out there are extremely comfortable with their pregnant bellies and want a formed fitting dress. If this is for you there are beautiful dresses out there that are still made with loose fabrics that show off your curves. And, I definitely recommend a cocktail dress such as this if you are confident with your body. You can really dress up a dress made from jersey for a cocktail event. If you stick with dark colors and add fancy accessories, you will be able to pull off jersey to any event. Silk also is a fabric that flows and always looks beautiful on any shaped body. A form fitted silk dress will also be comfortable because the fabric will not cling to your body, but rather will flow around your curves.  However, be careful when purchasing silk dresses. Sometimes silk cocktail dresses can look too lingerie and we definitely do not want people to think you showed up in your nighty because you couldn’t find anything to wear.

If you are leaning towards a dress that is looser around your body make sure you are still able to show off your girlish figure. Do not buy a dress that hides your body while in the process of trying to hide your belly.  I highly suggest staying away from the trash bag look.  Rather decide what you would like to show off. Maybe it’s your shoulders, arms, or legs.  There are so many styles out there, from off the shoulder dresses to strapless to halters, long and short. All of these styles will show off other parts of your body and will emphasize your beauty. Take attention off your belly by trying to show off your figure elsewhere.

Patterns also compliment a pregnant belly when the fabric flows over your body. Choose a pattern with a mix of vibrant and neutral colors. The right pattern can be slimming to the eye.  As for length, I suggest choosing a dress that cuts off at the top of your knee cap. Wear a nice pair of heels to accentuate your calves. Showing off your legs will take attention off of your belly.

My biggest advice for maternity cocktail dress shopping is making sure to wait as long as possible to buy your cocktail dress. Your body changes by the day during pregnancy, so to ensure the perfect fit buy your dress as close to the event as possible.
